To Those Who Serve

America came from a dream. A dream of freedom. At a time when life was done a certain way, no questions asked, a few had the courage to reach for a chance at something better.  We’ve come a long way since those days. I wonder if any of those men ever imagined how far that dream would go. This country, this “land of the free” is only free because of you, the brave men and women who have served it.

You serve a country built on freedom and equality. A country full of hopes and dreams. Fathers and mothers, sons and daughters, husbands and wives, aunts and uncles.  You each gave what you had in service to your country, your families, your friends, strangers.

Veterans Day

So on this anniversary of the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, we thank you.  Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, your courage. Thank you for the commitment, the days, weeks, months, and years away from family. Thank you for the hard choices, the blood, the tears. Thank you for every moment you spend wishing you could be home, but choose to stand for a country you believe in, a home you love. Thank you for the middle of the night show times and the missed births and holidays, each one more painful than the last.

Your sacrifices are not overlooked. Your courage is not forgotten.

Thank you for ensuring America will continue to be a country of dreams and hopes and freedom.
